Welcome to Season 41! We are still waiting on our draw for the Repechage, so in the meantime, I have scheduled a scrimmage to see where our team is early on. Last season we went 8-4 in Asias, increasing our ranking by 32 and our Ranking Points by 95.6, which is where we begin this season ranked 36 with 207.3 Ranking Points.

It all depends on our draw to decide if we qualify for Worlds or go into the Consolation 0-2. I will be honest, our team is a bit behind what we had last year, but looking ahead we have a good crop of 20s coming up for the next Continental competition and the draft looks like it was a good one too for both 18s & 19s. The future for Nippon U21 is bright if we can keep a good number of these players trained.

A tough Repechage draw pits us against Brasil, España, and Tounes. We should go 1-2 but will then go into the Consolation Tournament 0-2 and need to depend on our draw there to make the knockout round. We will do the best with what we have, and hope for an upset or two along the way. Keep training those younger players, and go Nippon!

We fell 83-79 to Brazil Monday. I did not expect the game to be that close so I ran some shenanigans and didn't want to burn enthusiasm. We were up with 4 minutes left when they went on a ridiculous run. We did close it to a 1 point game after back to back 3s with 5 seconds left. We got outrebounded and gave up 20 offensive boards which was the difference in the game, especially late.

Nakao scored 22 points in 21 minutes off the bench. Nozawa posted a double-double of 13 points and 17 rebounds to go with 7 assists. All in all, despite being a severe underdog, Nippon was well represented.

We next play Espana who beat Tounes 146-77.

Nippon is now ranked 30 with 221.2 Ranking Points. We have only had 5 weeks in history higher than this and peaked at 26. We likely won't beat Espana this week, but they are a highly ranked team so we could make a jump anyway.

We fell to Espana 85-64 today to fall to 0-2 in the Repechage. They are currently ranked #2 in the world so this is not a loss to be ashamed of. We will close out the Repe and move onto the Consolation after a game with Tounes, who is also 0-2 having lost to Espana(146-77) and Brasil(113-65).

I have had the flu so I apologize for the delay in a team update. This week we finished the Repechage with a game against Tounes. They played CT to our TIE but we still handled them 120-94. We went 1-2 in the Repe against some very quality opponents and almost beat Brazil. On to the Consolation...

Our Consolation schedule is Bolivia, Schweiz, Bosnia i Hercegovina, Argentina, Ireland, and Azerbaycan. Just from the outset, I believe we can go 3-3 against these teams.

Also, our ranking has risen to 27 with 238.6. We have only had 2 weeks in Nippon history with a higher ranking. At the end of Season 34 and beginning of Season 35 the ranking was 26.
