Great questions, 3peat.
I agree that Dormouse did a great job managing the team these past couple of seasons. He definitely maximized the team's potential.
In my mind there are 4 things that need to be done well to continue last season's trend,
1) Know your opponent
2) Know your team
3) Manage gameshape
4) Communicate with managers of Barbados players
1) We need to know our opponent. I think the best thing Dormouse did was choose his battles well. There wasn't anything particularly special about his gameplanning as in last season's games, Dormouse only really played Run and Gun and Man to Man. He did play 2-3 Zone once and Patient a couple of times but they were in games that we wouldn't really be competitive in. He did move players around a bit but that's something I can't really address without knowing the actual personnel. With that being said, I think we'd need to be realistic in knowing which teams we stand a shot against and which teams clearly outmatch us. With that in mind, I would save up my enthusiasm for those particular games and gameplan accordingly as I research each opponent's tactics and strengths.
2) We need to know our team. After getting a chance to see the personnel, it will help in determining what tactics this squad is best suited for on both sides of the ball. We'll have to choose wisely as we can't play with a tactic that we believe to be superior and effective but doesn't lie to our team's current strength. We'll build gameplans around who we have.
3) We need to manage gameshape for our players. Especially in the weeks building up to those games we deem to be "winnable", managers whose players will be playing will be contacted and strongly encouraged to manage their player's gameshape for the upcoming week.
4) We need to communicate with managers who own Barbados players. In the long run, this is the only way that the Barbados National Team will improve is if there are more players that are being trained down the line. This means communicating with managers who own Barbados players of strong skillsets and potential, including current NT and U21 players, to see if they're training them. If they are, i'd assist them with developing a training plan for their player. If they're not, i'd encourage them to sell their player as there are teams that are looking to train Barbados players.
Hope this answers your questions.
