Second Team:
Euphoria Seekers
Knowing that I'd be getting one the the lowest picks in my league, I spent nothing on scouting the entire season. Now, I want to maximize my chances of getting a decent player.

My strategy is to put players ranked #1 - #15 at the bottom of my draft selection order. I figure that other teams, who have invested in scouting, know which of these 4/5 star players are any good, so only the chumps will fall to me. So, I eliminate those players from consideration and hope to get lucky with a 3 star player, many of whom go unscouted.

I pick 15th. There are 3 bot teams in my league. I've currently got the best 3 star player (player #20) as my #1 pick. Am I crazy? Is there a smarter way to go about this?

Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thx

Since the order of your draft list is not the same as that of your opponents, your strategy won't work as intended.

Everyones players are randomised and as far as I can see the "word on the street" ranking is totally worthless and player #48 is just as likely to be good as #1.

My tip for next season would be to spend $5,000 a week which wont break the budget but will allow you to do the draft combine so you at least can see everyone's age and height.

i would put them on top of the list again, as already said your top 15 ain't the top 15 of your opponents and it isn't totally random so you had sligthly better chanches to get an top player there.

Seeing as everyone else is sharing I will let you all know about my draft. I found a 5 skill 4 potential amazing 18 year old star of the future worth a million dollars, in fact I found two of them. Then I have a huge bunch of other 5 ball skill 18 year olds. What a great draft! The issue is I pick 15th so I am going to end up with a 3 ball 19 year old...

In response to Yoda but for Everyone.

This is why it is so hard to juggle success with the draft. You almost need to make a call 4-5 weeks into a season. If you are going well then stop scouting. Personally I prefer to not scout at all. I did for 5 seasons and got nothing but duds. I prefer to buy a player each season worth about 300K and another worth about 100K. I still get the trainees but not the disapointment. Save the money I say.

adding to my last post is the most important thing. I get to buy a player that suits where I want my training.

I'd actually say the better thing to do is the group demo because a skilled 19 year old is still better than a terrible 18 year old. I've done this for the past two seasons and despite having a bottom 2 pick both seasons have managed to get a $4500 player with good secondaries this year. I spent a couple extra points just to scout another 3-4 players but overall I'd agree with OP, I think spending more than a little money on the draft is generally a waste.
