I wouldn't train anyone over 27 at all. There will be no point as it will be too slow.
22 and under is a good age for training.
Might be better to get a young PF or young C to train up alongside.

After reviewing your team, I'd say that you need to buy at least one more trainee. Another suggestion is that you switch your 20 year old perennial allstar small forward to shooting guard and train him there.

If I could make a suggestion, buy a point guard age 18 or 19 with at least star potential, and try for the following as minimum statistics:
Jump Shot: Average
Jump Range: mediocre
Outside Defense: Average
Passing; Average

And I would stick to training STRICTLY GUARDS for at least a couple of seasons with your trainees being the following:

Point Guards:
Miles Champagne
Trainee Purchased that I mentioned above

Shooting Guards:
Carlos Butts
Cibran Ladron

And perhaps you could purchase a fifth trainee to try and rotate into the training, but I'm not so sure on this.

Hope this helps!

When training, put them at Shooting Guard instead of Small Foward, and put your Shooting Guards at the small forward position.

Then train for guards, add in a week of Outside Shooting every few weeks, as well as lots of training for Pressure (PG/SG) which will help improve Outside Defense. I'd suggest doing Pressure as much as you can while your trainees are young because when they get older, training slows down, and Outside defense already takes the longest of any of the skills to train.

In other words, your training might look something like this:

Pressure (PG/SG)
Jump Shot (PG/SG)
Pressure (PG/SG)
Outside Shooting (PG/SG)

Perhaps rotating in one of the following occasionally:
Passing (PG/SG) Passing is really helpful for getting the ball to the open man; it produces higher quality shots and should help produce more points.
One on One (Guards) One on One improves Handling, Driving, and Jump Shot all fairly fast, so training One on One is rather beneficial.

During the week of the allstar break, train free throws or staming, and during the offseason, that would be a good idea as well due to lack of training minutes.

Hope this clears things up a bit!

Yes. You select the people you want to play in different positions when choosing your lineup.

The given position on a player's profile is only a suggestion from the BB-engine. But you are still free to play any player anywhere you want, which allows you to give them proper training minutes at a position you want to train for.
