You might as well change your training next week. The amount of training your player has gotten so far will not be dumped and you can get back to your original training regime for the pop. However, it's more reasonable to just keep on training him until he gets the pop simply because once he pops up he's already a better player and your team rating and performance increases.
You might also want to change your training to get the most out of secondary pops. For example, if you expect a pop in JS in 3 weeks, you might set a 2-week JS training and then switch to JR for another two, which will eventually lead to pops in both of these skills simultaneously. It doesn't always work like these, but you might give it a try.
