In the changes for season 9 it says that the leagues will negotiate the contract, so does this then mean in the weekly financial update that everyone will see the same amount of money rather than a team by team basis? Also how will the dollar amount be determined?

like it stand in the news:

- the league tv contract depends on the quality of the teams playing there

- the merchandise money depend on the value of the franchise.

I would expect that salary of the player play a role + nt player give a bonus.

I think the BBs mentioned that players of the same nationality as the team will also give a merchandising bonus.

What is the logic behind that? Kobe would sell millions of tickets even if he was in France or China....while Dirk sells out Dallas everynight even though he is German. I think a star is a star no matter what nationality...people will pay to see good players period.

He would sell even more if he was German and played in Germany. Guess you can't argue with that?

And there is said to be a bonus for all stars just that there will also be an extra effect from having domestic players in the team, both stars and less spectacular players.

From the reasoning it sounds like the new bonuses are pretty realistic actually. If they manage to implement them well is another issue.

Yes, you make a very good point that he would also sell out in Germany. But would not Kobe, Lebron, Wade sell out in any other country.

So players that are All-Stars will bring more fans also? That does make sense.

I thought I read somewhere that it is just players with higher salaries that bring in the fans....What about a player that wins MVP the previous season? Also, is it based on their current abilities or potential (i.e. 3 players that made the All-Star team the previous year compared to a team with 3 MVP potential players)?

I expect that MVP for a season as well as all-star appearance will also in the future be of absolutely no value for the teams strength. Nothing mentioned about this and therefore there are no logic in it having an effect on the sponsor money.

And as long as training efficient is so important it would not make sense to make MVP awards, all-star selections and similar issues rewarding. I had no player in all-star game last season because I did not play my best players from start in all league games, instead there were players with very low salaries from teams that never been active.

In my opinion the game needs to be changed if these events should be taken into consideration even if it would make sense to reward those that decides to not sacrifice everything for perfect training.

Yes, I see your point. The game is not geared towards individual awards like all-star appearences or MVPs. But it would make just as much sense that the MVP of the league would bring in just as many if not more fans into the stadium as someone who may have a higher salary.

It will be interesting to see what they end up doing with the stadium attendance, merchandise, and tv contracts....right now it is very ambiguous..

MVP and similar awards are given for players who put best numbers, in NBA no one from bench could get that award. and like announcements said, players who puts great numbers will also attract fans. but i dont know what are these great numbers in this case (rating, points per game and so on).

no because of the weak leagues ;)

And the NBA is maybe a bad example for it, because it becomes world wide attetion and still have much nationals in it. If you watch the german league for example, where normally 8 americans play against 8 other american you will feel that the few national players get much higher atention then equal or better american(with the exeption of the Stars of their team - anotherthing why your examle maybe isn't the best).
