Apologies for the lack of updates in the second phase onwards. Long story short, we managed to top our stage two group easily enough despite a narrow loss to Hong Kong during it. My game plan was to TIE everything since we only needed top two to advance and with HCA to counteract the negatives of less effort, I felt that we could easily make it through unless our opponents slammed us with good GDP calls. I'm pretty good at dodging GDP calls, so we made it with a 4-1 record.

Winning stage two on points difference also gave us a better semi-final draw in the form of a rematch with Malaysia. With us beating them easily enough back in stage one, a play-off normal is something I felt I had to risk to maximise our chances of going on to win the grand final. As it turns out, Malaysia wasn't that big of a threat to us and the team ran out 97-74 winners.

For points purposes I'll give 2 points each to Keith Anderson, Poluta'u Brar and Will Williams. I'll have to go back and score the five stage two games soon, but right now I'm thinking about the final in 40 minutes time.

We're playing Taiwan after they scored the upset win over China. This does benefit us greatly as they had to use more effort to make the final, but with them only losing to us in stage two because of a bad GDP call, dodging GDP again is going to be crucial to our success in this game. The following link will lead you to the game in about 40 minutes time if you wish to watch it.

Probably should get a thread going and pasted up the top (red tagged) in the Australian National Team forum (Supporters access required).

Use of tactics and selection lineup would be an interesting discussion given that Civaric and McMillan shot 2 out of 10 at Centre and got beaten in rebounds 18 to 5

Based on the result of the stage two game (36017), I came to two conclusions;

1. Taiwan was stronger on paper than us, but...
2. With us having better enthusiasm and HCA, the Taiwan manager would feel compelled to GDP.

So, knowing that he or she would GDP, I chose an offence that I felt gave me the best chance of avoiding that GDP. Likewise, the defensive tactics were based around what Taiwan had been running and what their line-up was.

EDIT: Made this post very vague so as to not make my way of thinking too obvious to other NT managers who might be reading this.

Again I believe such discussions should be kept to a restricted access forum.

i.e. set one up in the Supporters group for the National Team and not in a public domain.

I understand your logic but In short IMO your tactics were proven to be poor by the statistics and IMO we were lucky to get a win

Some very good players missed out on the initial 10 man squad simply because this team may well be even better than the one that won the Asian Championship in season 33. I've never seen a player with more TSP than Gingut has right now in my time playing BB, and the rest of the squad is very strong too.

To answer Ezlife's demand to see Simon Thomas make the NT, he just missed out but is an incredible player for his age and I will be keeping a close eye on him to see when the ideal time is this season to add him to the team for his debut.

We play New Zealand first on Monday. They have some good players but not all of them are in good GS so this shouldn't be too much trouble. In fact this entire first stage is essentially a pre-season from our perspective, as there is zero chance that we even come close to dropping out of the top four, and everything gets reset in the second group stage anyway.

So apparently the greater community hates me.

Can I at least get an explanation as to why? My current term is only one week old and we just secured a blow-out win over New Zealand (they were good in the 1st quarter but quickly fell away after that). Right now it looks like you're all disapproving of me without giving me a fair chance to do the job, and if you were that firmly against me, why didn't anyone else aside from a random third division manager show genuine interest in the job?

I genuinely believe Thomas should join the NT, would it be just to get the garbage minutes and acquire a bit of experience. The squad is getting old and will have to be replaced by new leaders in the near future. You've 18 spots on your roster, you should also reward those who train their guys and take care of their game shape.

That being said, I have no doubt you're a great manager and you've done everything right since you joined the game. One can only admire you! If that makes you feel better, I'll change my vote despite disagreeing with the NT's politics :P

I just realised my player played last night. I hadn't voted but so gave you the thumbs up and you are at 50%

Keep up the good work
