What has been dubbed by many fans as one of the worst decisions in Franchise history, the Eggies have decided to part ways with long time SG Rueben Duffy. Duffy was originally drafted by the Eggies with the 13th pick of season 27, and had been with the team ever since until this past Saturday.
Here are some of the quotes we're getting from fans...
"I just don't understand it. He played the game really really good. I mean REALLY good. And you just don't do a player like that," said a sobbing Steven Bosell.
Local attorney and long time Eggies supporter Harvey Wireman had this to say. "Well our owner is a jackass, and (stops to clear throat)...God D$%#it I lost my train of thought."
We were approached by one interesting looking fan who was wearing a pith helmet with bermuda shorts and Oxford wing tips. He claimed to be part of a local law enforcement agency. He really had nothing to say about Duffy, but instead wanted to see our credentials. When we asked for his credentials we were interrupted by a voice breaking thru on his cb radio. It was his wife..."Jay...it's time to come home for dinner." And that was that. Bizarre experience to say the least.
When asked to comment on the decision to part ways with Duffy, General Manager Bob McGraw had this to say. "I don't have that information right now. It's actually in my briefcase, which is in my car." We pressed Bob further to give us one good reason why Duffy would be sold with 2-3 great seasons still left in him. "Well there's a lot of reasons. I can think of MANY of them." We never did get to the bottom of the issue with Bob. As we left, he handed us a business card. Something about an Iraq Travel Agency.
We finally got in touch with owner David G Hall. He is not the easiest person to track down, and his comments generally enrage fans.
"Ahh what the hell do any of our fans know about basketball? You show the average Eggies fan a picture of a baseball, a soccer ball, and a basketball, they can't even tell you which ball belongs to which sport." We gave Mr. Hall several chances to redeem himself...he did not. "The average Eggies fan has NO IDEA what it's like to own a business. These are VERY simple people. Our fans work at places like Home Depot, and Arby's. They can't relate to these kind of business decisions."
Maybe they can't relate. Eggies attendance has been way down lately.
