why HELLO to everyone, welcome to the new season. and here are your premature power rankings:
1. Baker Street Irregulars - team salary - 362,785 | top 5 players salary - 253,357 | 6-10 player salary - 88,738 | arena size - 14,450 | esteblished - season 7
heavy favorites and coming into the season as the returning blue side champs, the irregulars are definitely looking for promotion this season. they'll definitely face stiff competition, but thus far they're well ahead of everyone else in the arms race. should they sell kuptsov, while it would alleviate some salary burden, they would still be way ahead of the pack in terms of team salary. homegrown trainee cody meredith looks ready to emerge as the team's leader, and probable mvp candidate. combined with new acquisition janusz langa, the irregulars have set themselves up to have a terrific inside and outside 1-2 combo, making them (as always) diverse and difficult to gameplan for. they're also the deepest team in the league, adding to their intimidation factor. when, exactly, are you supposed to catch this team off-guard? they currently grade as promotion favorites.
2. West Side Tigers - team salary - 293,303 | top 5 players salary - 244,394 players 6-10 salary - 39,732 | arena size - 18,050 | established - season 20
the tigers were oh so close just a season ago, but was ousted by an upstart philly team in a season of destiny. west side presents the greatest threat to baker street at the moment. after kuptsov sells, they'll be within $20k of baker street's team salary, and will easily edge them in starter salary, making them definite players for the championship, and obvious red side favorites. as always, gybels and bois will be a problem for the league, and lévêque is a machine, mvp hopeful. the interior based team will rely on wilbanks to provide balance on the perimiter, and hope to get some production out of adair and bourne as well. they're one of the most profitable teams in the league, and are huge obstacles for anyone with promotion hopes.
3. homeboyz - team salary - 263,582 | top 5 players salary - 222,983 | 6-10 players salary - 26,469 | arena size - 13,885 | established - season 8
last season's purchase of markko vahi catapulted the team into contention and immediate blue side threats. a little thin at 6 deep, look for the boyz to address their bench at some point this season. they're all but a lock for the playoffs. the question is, how much damage can they do once they get there? i've seen stranger things than a team like this beating a team like baker street. they're an inside oriented team between vahi and le dorze, gaining some balance with kasselakis and rauw. kasselakis, in fact, has shown to be an mvp calibur scorer, so by no means can you sleep on their perimeter game. you'd have to grade this team in its current state as a team within striking distance of baker street.
4. Diamantes - team salary - 235,699 | top 5 players salary - 144,205 | 6-10 players salary - 76,050 | arena size - 14,118 | established - season 22
a deep team made for steady league play as well as cup sustainability, diamantes round out the 4 spot. they were successful in their rookie year last season in doing what they were built to do. they're not really currently a threat due to their lack of starting talent, but they're definitely in position to win any game any night. different story in the playoffs, but nevertheless, they'll be very good. they're good inside and out. look for diamantes to continue doing what they're doing for a season or 2, gaining capitol and infrastructure leverage, before restructuring their team into promotion contenders. at the moment, they're just a solid playoff team.
