Well I have a good young player who already has great attribute ratings but he has starter potential and i was wondering how bad is starter potential? If his salary is at 3 k right now what would you say it will be at in 2 seasons? Is he worth it?
ps. i have a level 5 trainer

Train him to 21-24k. If you train him evenly, you probably won't reach that cap in 2 seasons.

The 20k salary I was referring to is the supposed cap for a starter potential.

You only have 2 players with starter potential and 3k salary. They're 22 and 23 years old. I think they might be too old. I don't know if they will reach 20k in 2 seasons. If you post the player's attributes and your training plan, it'll be easier to predict if he will get 20k in 2 seasons or not.

Jump Shot: average Jump Range: pitiful
Outside Def.: average Handling: inept
Driving: respectable Passing: mediocre
Inside Shot: respectable Inside Def.: pitiful
Rebounding: average Shot Blocking: average
Stamina: inept Free Throw: respectable

Experience: pitiful

I don't really have a training plan but i would probably train him at rebounding for maybe 6 weeks? Then train his inside shot and handling for maybe 5 weeks each. Also I would like to get just about every other attribute to at least average.
I want this player to be a player who will lead the league in points per game and rebounds.

That player is not particularly good. Just pick up a better trainee in the draft or save some cash and get a better played. He's afine small forward in dIV but I he's not a long term prospect.

I presume its the guy at 20 years old ?Thats too old for what you are trying to achieve and his training slows as he gets older. Even then, he doesn't have great stats. Inside Def is pitiful and will be scored on a lot.

You're better off waiting till after the draft and find a good 18 year old trainee

For the 18 year old:

You probably have 4 good seasons to train him ( at 19, 20, 21, and 22). You have 40 weeks (10 weeks x 4 seasons), more if you're in the playoffs or 6th/7th place.

You could train him like this JS (wingmen) x13, pressure (pg) x6, OS (sg) x4, IS (c) x8, reb (c/pf) x9.

You could end up with:

Jump Shot: prominent Jump Range: average
Outside Def.: average Handling: proficient
Driving: respectable Passing: respectable
Inside Shot: prominent Inside Def.: prominent
Rebounding: prominent Shot Blocking: average

It's only an estimate.

I assume this player is on the transfer list?
Are you trying to train a small forward? Powerforward?
Either way his JS is a bit low, hist inside scoring is really low and he'll be 19 by the time you get the chance to really train him. I guess he's not a terrible prospect, but you can definitely find better at an affordable price (and certainly draft better). You can definitely get him up to 10k (under the soon to obsolete salary structure) if you pump a few skills up hard, but it's going to be tough to get his shooting skills up to a respectable level in the short term. I definitely wouldn't base my training around him.

You want at least three good, trainable players who you can either keep or sell at a big profit. I really think you should wait until after the draft to start worrying about long term training issues. You can either pick up one or two good trainees there or draft players who you can sell to buy the kind of player you want.
